TOUR 6

Visit Soho, Little Italy and Chinatown

It is to discover three different neighborhoods at all levels that we propose you here. An immersion in the melting pot of New York.

SoHo

Named because of its geographical location (SoHo = SOuth of HOuston Street) The architecture is important.

The cast iron is very present in the streets of SoHo, and its large imposing buildings actually house – for the most part – studios and lofts of much more human dimensions. Its architectural beauty made it a National Historic Landmark in 1973, and it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. SoHo is full of designer boutiques, which rub shoulders with clothing, jewelry, home décor, and textile giants. SoHo is without a doubt a New York shopping destination to experience. Every weekend, the beautiful cobblestone streets of this neighborhood are packed with people.

Little Italy:

New York’s Italian neighborhood

There was a time when Manhattan’s Little Italy lived up to its name.

Its noisy streets were filled with stores, restaurants and grocery stores that smelled of Italy. Little Italy today has shrunk a bit, but the neighborhood still retains its charm and good humor.

Not to be missed: The Feast of San Gennaro, held in honor of San Gennaro, the patron saint of Naples. From a small one-day celebration in 1926, the event has grown into an 11-day festival, which takes place every year in September.

Chinatown

Walking into Chinatown, you’ll have a bit of a feeling of crossing a border. It’s an area of New York City that’s bustling with activity and is constantly on the move.  Between the signs written in Chinese and the fact of hearing the inhabitants speak Cantonese and Mandarin in the streets, the change of scenery is total! It is truly a neighborhood apart… Many of the residents do not speak English and rarely go beyond the “borders” of Manhattan’s Chinatown.

But Chinatown has a lot to offer to whoever ventures there: all its little streets, its little workshops, its little stores and food stands that follow one another… without forgetting a great park (Columbus Park) where the Chinese practice typical Chinese activities (tai-chi-chaun and xianqui).

TOUR 7

Lower East side and the Essex Market

The Lower East Side has a reputation for being ahead of the curve. Feisty and vibrant, LES takes the nickname “the city that never sleeps” as a challenge, and its music venues, bars and restaurants never fail to live up to it.
The neighborhood retains its Jewish heritage with the Lower East Side Tenement Museum on Orchard Street and old-world fabric stores, as well as traditional grocery stores like Katz’s where the famous scene from the movie “When Harry Met Sally” was shot.
The Lower East side is a mood!
For the foodies we plan a visit to the Essex Market.
The Essex Market has been a staple of the Lower East Side since 1818, when it began as a covered market. The Essex Market has always been a unique experience, as locals and visitors alike gather to discover a wide variety of goods. The vendors all have individual stories and distinctive personalities that add flavor to their already delicious offerings. That tells you to share their experiences and knowledge, they give a true neighborhood feel to this historic public market.

TOUR 29

Williamsburg: Contrast between Hipster style and Hasidic religion

Williamsburg is a somewhat unique enclave. This neighborhood has been taken over by artists and hipsters alike. With its rich architecture, artistic reputation and music scene, this neighborhood has recently become a magnet for anyone looking for a trendy address. Williamsburg is also home to a large Hasidic Jewish community.
After World War II, European populations came to Brooklyn as refugees. Among them were Hasidic Jews who were fleeing persecution in Europe. It is quite fascinating to see how these two populations coexist today in a new life in Williamsburg. This tour will transport you to another world and time in our history.

Discovery of The Meatpacking, the High Line and Hudson Yard

The tour starts in the old slaughterhouses of this district, where the movie “Gangs of New York” with Leonardo DiCaprio was shot.

However, the tour will continue through the famous Chelsea Market and through the old Nabisco factory, where the excellent Oreo cookies were created. We will take the High Line, this old railroad, disused, transformed into an elevated garden with a flora that supports bees. You will be able to admire artistic installations always interesting by their style and sometimes even avant-garde, without forgetting the crazy architecture that is offered all along this walk. At the end of the High Line, we arrive at the new Hudson Yard district. It is a bit of a playground for millionaires, and we will have the opportunity to see the Vessel.
